TATTOO AFTERCARE
Taking care of your tattoo is just as important as getting it. Below are the steps I recommend to help your piece heal beautifully—whether I applied a Saniderm bandage or we went with the traditional method.
WITH SANIDERM:
TWO-PIECE METHOD:
First Piece:
Leave the first layer of Saniderm on for 8 to 24 hours, depending on how much fluid builds up under the wrap. If it fills up quickly, it’s better to change it sooner to maintain the seal.
To Remove:
Gently peel it off under warm running water (like in the shower).
Start from an edge and slowly roll it back over itself in the direction of your hair growth. Never pull it straight up or rip it off dry—this can hurt and damage your skin.
Next Step:
Clean the area using unscented antibacterial liquid soap (no bar or foaming soap).
Pat dry with a paper towel or let it air dry.
Apply the second piece of Saniderm directly onto clean, dry skin. Do not use lotion or ointment before reapplying—this will prevent it from sticking properly.
Second Piece:
Keep it on for 5 to 7 days. Some fluid may still gather underneath—that’s totally normal.
When it’s time to remove it, repeat the same process under running water.
After Removal:
Clean gently with unscented antibacterial soap, pat dry, and start applying a fragrance-free moisturizer as needed.
Continue moisturizing daily for the rest of your 2-week healing period.
ONE-PIECE METHOD:
Leave the bandage on for 3 to 4 days, depending on how much fluid collects.
Remove it under warm water just like described above—slow, careful, and with the hair grain.
Once Off:
Clean with unscented antibacterial soap.
Dry with a paper towel and apply a very thin layer of unscented moisturizer (Aquaphor, Hustle Butter, or Joshua Tree work great—whatever fits your skin best).
Tattoo should never feel wet or sticky—let it breathe.
Over the next days:
Wash once or twice daily and moisturize as needed.
When flaking or peeling begins, switch to a lightweight unscented lotion (like Lubriderm) and continue for the full 2 weeks.
NOTES ABOUT SANIDERM:
You can shower with it on, but try to limit water exposure.
Avoid the gym, pools, hot tubs, and direct sun.
Redness around the edges is common in high-movement areas. If you notice a rash, burning, or anything unusual—remove the bandage immediately and switch to traditional aftercare.

TRADITIONAL METHOD:
If Saniderm isn’t right for you—whether due to sensitive skin or allergies—I’ll apply a temporary wrap right after your session. Here's how to take care of your tattoo using the standard approach:
Step-by-step:
Remove the wrap after 2 hours in a clean environment.
Wash the tattoo gently with unscented antibacterial liquid soap and pat dry.
Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer (Aquaphor, Hustle Butter, or Joshua Tree are good choices).
Repeat 2–3 times a day during the first week or until peeling begins.
After Week One:
When your tattoo starts to peel or flake, switch to a gentle lotion like Lubriderm.
Reduce washing to once a day and moisturize only as needed.
Keep in mind:
No pools, hot tubs, or tanning for at least 2 weeks.
Avoid long soaking and minimize friction or stretching of the skin while it heals.
Some redness or tiny bumps might occur—this is usually a sign of over-moisturizing or skin irritation. In that case, simplify your routine and use a lighter lotion.
